The traditional Victor De Mello Lecture is given every two years by a renowned Brazilian or international expert in geotechnical engineering and is named after one of the most important international geotechnical engineers. This lecture was created in honor of the engineer and professor Victor de Mello, whose life was an example of technical excellence and dissemination of knowledge in the field of soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering. Considering his dual nationality (Brazilian and Portuguese), Professor Victor de Mello has in this important tribute a synthesis of the communion of knowledge between Brazil (ABMS) and Portugal (SPG).
The IX Victor de Mello Lecture will be delivered during the 12th Luso-Brazilian Geotechnical Engineering Congress on August 23, 2024 in Lisbon at the LNEC by Dr. David Hight, entitled "Characterization of soils: the continuing importance of fabric and anisotropy”.
